Now, onto the little person you're really interested in.....
A couple Sunday's ago Kale woke at 5am. This is his new "thing." I mean, 5am is his preferred wake up time, but we've always managed to convince him that sleeping two more hours is in everyone's best interest. Lately though, he's been ignoring this advice and all our efforts to convince him otherwise.
So it's Sunday and it's 5am and we've got one very happy toddler and two very tired parents. We decide the only way to make it through the day without losing our minds is to keep busy and get out of the house. Thankfully the weather was cooperating and it was actually a nice winter day (about the only one we've had all year). We decided to pack Kale up in the wagon and walk downtown in search of a doughnut (random craving - I have not had a doughnut in at least 10 years).
We intentionally left early so that Kale would be awake and enjoy the walk with a plan that we would come home, eat doughnuts and all take a long afternoon nap. And I know you're laughing at us now - because you know (and we know) that you should never PLAN on your kid sleeping. In fact, you should never plan anything around your kids because they can read your mind and will ruin those plans every.single.time.
So while Kale looked like this when we left the house:
He looked like this about five minutes later:
And so we walked around town looking for a doughnut for two hours while Kale did this:
And while we never did find a doughnut, but some rather yummy pastries, we enjoyed our walk and happily headed home. Two minutes from our front door, we turned around to see this:
Convinced we'd missed our opportunity to nap, we made some pizza and decided to head back out. Our towns museum was holding their grand reopening and so we went down to check it out:
After that we walked over to the toy store and let Kale pull everything off the shelves (kidding....ok, not kidding, but we did follow him around and put everything back. We're not completely terrible). Kale had the best view on the walk:
And then on the drive home, a miracle happened. Kale fell asleep. He has not napped twice in one day since he was 16 months old. Sweet, sweet miracle. We promptly drove home and I tucked the two of us in bed (Kris went to the gym !?!) and we napped the afternoon way.
For a Sunday that involved waking up at 5am, it was actually pretty great.
Thanks for sticking around. I promise to keep the beer far(ish).
